Collegis Education has released a free tool that visualizes data on trends in higher education. The company aims to help college administrators understand enrollment trends using the last decade's data from the National Center of Education Statistics.
The program, called College Enrollment Trends, creates customized graphs that show statistics like the college enrollment rate, the high school graduation rate, and the ratio of women to men. Its stated purpose is to help administrators understand all the circumstances that may affect enrollment at their college or university, writes iSchool Guide.
Bob King, managing director of Enrollment Growth Management, says:
The number of high school graduates in the US has steadily declined over the past few years, and projections for the future show the trend continuing. That means colleges and universities are competing for a shrinking pool of potential students. That statistic, however, doesn't tell the whole story, which is why we wanted to create a tool to help higher education institutions of all sizes better understand what's happening across higher education.
The tool, which can be found at the Collegis website, is clear and easy to use, with a prominent help feature. Visitors can use the "compare demographics" feature to view the high school graduation rate, college enrollment rate, and college graduation rate of various demographics, separated by race, gender, and state. The "compare colleges" feature allows users to view the acceptance rate, enrollment rate, and graduation rate of various institutions. Select a college or two and the tool will produce a graph with the college's line highlighted. Hovering the cursor over the graph will make more information visible.
It also features four graphs that show data proving larger trends: that college enrollment is in decline, women perform better than men, enrollment of Hispanic students is growing, and the racial gap is dwindling.
King says that College Enrollment Trends will help colleges find and keep students.
Today's higher education landscape is rapidly changing as access to high education improves and continues to grow. With more competition comes the need for colleges and universities to better understand the trends that may be impacting their institution. This tool helps illustrate how different demographics compare on acceptance, enrollment, and graduation rates and shows why many colleges and universities are having to rethink the type of student they should be pursuing to attend their institution. At Collegis Education, we understand the challenges higher education institutions face today, and we look forward to helping colleges and universities grow.
Collegis, an enrollment growth management and technology services company, focuses on helping higher education institutions increase their effectiveness and reach.
