Quincy Jones Launches Music Education Software ‘Playground Sessions’

According to Brittney M. Walker of Eurweb.com, Grammy-winner and music legend Quincy Jones has launched Playground Sessions, a startup that offers a computer-based solution for children and adults who wish to learn music.

The music education learning software will help children and adults learn how to read and play music by understanding the basics of piano playing on a platform similar to the famed Rosetta Stone method of learning languages.

Playground Sessions helps music students learn about playing the piano using popular songs. Playground Sessions has hours of interactive video tutorials starring music phenomenon David Sides teaching songs and music theory, details the Playground Sessions website.

Playground Sessions is designed to allow students play piano right away using songs they like. Lessons will be taught by Sides, a YouTuber who has received more than 170 million views on on his videos.

“The concept is brand-new. I have been praying for this for a long time,” Jones said in an interview. “It has a learning concept similar to Rosetta Stone. I’m blown away by this.”

According to Jones, Playground Sessions will be a great gift for music students. He is worried about music education in the United States, saying that kids in US are short on music education. Jones thinks applications like Playground Sessions are needed to promote music and the arts in the country.

“Our kids in this country know less than any other country,” Jones said. “We need something like Playground Sessions to push us forward.”

According to Josh Ong of The Next Web, Playground Sessions’s platform includes a music store for sheet music, video lessons and a MIDI keyboard setup for learning to play through popular music.

Playground Sessions offers two subscription plans. For annual subscriptions, the fee is $9.99 per month, or $119.88 a year. For quarterly subscription, learners will pay $44.97 for 3 months.

Membership includes a bootcamp curriculum with lessons on basic keyboard skills, notation, ear training and rhythm. Students will also get discounts on video tutorials and sheet music.

Jones is the music legend who produced Michael Jackson’s Thriller album and has the record for the most Grammy Award nominations. The 80-year-old Jones’ career spans on six decades.

Playground Sessions’s software platform works on both PC and Apple.

Playground Sessions Founder and CEO Chris Vance said he believes the software is “deep enough to be a launching pad,” even for beginners. During the beta phase of the product, the startup held a contest to have a fan spend 30 days going from absolute beginner to intermediate level with Playground Sessions and then hold a concert. The winner eventually went on to make it to Hollywood on American Idol.
