dataMetrics’ New ‘Correlation Report’ Shows Educators How Well Two Assessment Scores Correlate to Each Other

Harvard, MA, June 11, 2010 – To help TestWiz customers view the relationship between two assessments, dataMetrics, a Massachusetts-based company specializing in test processing and reporting software for K-12 educational institutions, has created the Correlation Report.

The new TestWiz report allows educators to select any two assessments, that were given to the same students and calculate the correlation between the two – in the form of a Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (-1 to +1). The report also provides a visual representation of the correlation through a scatter plot of the test scores.

The report is useful when evaluating and acting on results of an assessment. It can give educators insight as to whether results on a locally developed test can be used to predict performance on a high-stakes test. The report can also provide statistical backing for questions that have preconceived answers, i.e. is there a strong correlation between performance on the state’s Math open items and Reading Comprehension?

“Correlation and reliability statistics are not functions that our typical users can perform on their own, yet are ever present questions when working with assessments,” said Naomi Menikoff, President of dataMetrics Software, Inc. “To address this, we created an easy-to-run 4-step wizard where the users select the assessments and scores they wish to correlate and see the correlation results with one click. The report tells and shows educators graphically whether there is a relationship between any two test scores.”

The Correlation Report can be run comparing two different scores within the same assessment (multiple choice vs. open response) or comparing two scores for two different assessments (local vs. state). In either scenario, score types do not need to be the same. Educators can run the analysis unlimited times with unlimited permutations and they don’t need to know how to calculate a Pearson Correlation Coefficient, nor do they need to hire a statistician to run the analysis for them, in order to use the data.

As with all TestWiz reports, there is no extra fee associated with the Correlation Report. For more information on TestWiz, visit www.testwiz.com.
