AUC LAUNCHES ARABIC WEB SITE

March 14, 2010, Cairo, Egypt – As part of its ongoing outreach to the Arabic-speaking community, the American University in Cairo has launched a new Arabic language Web site at http://www.aucegypt.edu/ar . This new media initiative provides Arabic speakers with immediate access to the latest AUC news, as well as information about AUC academic and research activities and cultural events.

The Arabic Web site is the communication hub for all Arabic content, including the bi-annual magazine, In Arabic, which showcases feature-length Arabic articles on topics such as faculty research and environmental conservation efforts. The Web site will also link audiences to the Arabic Facebook fan page, a component of AUC’s comprehensive social media program. Additionally, the Web site will include relevant content translated from the English version of the AUC Web site, including press releases about scholarships, academic programs and community service. The site will also promote public events being presented in Arabic and those that feature Arabic translation.

In addition to serving as a venue for enhanced communication, the Arabic language Web site will also show the depth of AUC’s engagement with the wider community. From the creation of the AUC Downtown Cultural Center to service clubs like Volunteers in Action, the Web site ensures that all of AUC’s community activities are accessible to the Arabic media, parents of students who do not speak English and other community stakeholders.

The American University in Cairo (AUC) was founded 90 years ago and is major contributor to the social, political and cultural life of the Arab region.  It is a vital bridge between East and West, linking Egypt and the region to the world through scholarly research, partnerships with academic and research institutions, and study abroad programs. An independent, nonprofit, apolitical, non-sectarian and equal opportunity institution, AUC is fully accredited in Egypt and the United States.
