Former President of Peru Alejandro Toledo to Speak in Houston

 
HOUSTON—February 16, 2010   Former President of Peru Alejandro Toledo will speak about the evolving social, economic and political conditions in Latin America at a World Affairs Council program on March 3, 2010 in Houston.  The event is part of the Latin America Business Outlook series sponsored by Thompson & Knight LLP.

Dr. Toledo will discuss projects and policies to help build institutions for greater stability across Peru and Latin America. 

Toledo will address a group of Houston executives, many of whom do business in Peru and Latin America.

Dr. Toledo is a non-resident senior fellow in the Foreign Policy and Global Economy and Development Programs at the Brookings Institution. He is also the founder and president of the Global Center for Development and Democracy.  As president of Peru from 2001-2006, he led a period of sustained economic growth and poverty reduction. 

Dr. Toledo has taught at Stanford University, Harvard University and the American University as well as at universities in Peru and Japan. He has been an advisor to the World Bank, United Nations, United States Agency for International Development and SRI International.  Dr. Toledo holds two master’s degrees and received a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1993.

The Latin America Business Outlook series covers the region’s rapidly changing business environment through lectures and presentations.
