It seems like a hoax. Federal judges have used racial bias laws to help a convicted rapist while disregarding his victim – all in a ruling so short it could fit on a Facebook status update.

It happened last month when a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a conviction in the horrific rape of a North Highlands great-grandmother.

The judges agreed that Steven Frank Jackson didn’t get a fair trial in 2004 because Sacramento County prosecutors dismissed two African Americans during jury selection.

It’s a ruling that makes a mockery of civil rights laws, and Attorney General Jerry Brown is appealing the decision to the full 9th Circuit bench.
