I couldn't stop thinking of being given some Mexican jumping beans as a child. I was fascinated with them...so fascinated that I would carry them around with me everywhere. They were an incredibly educational "toy", especially after I learned what really made them jump. I recently used some in a science fair demonstration, and everyone was also fascinated; children and adults alike. While they are not easy to find, I did find them online at http://www.amazingbeans.com Great fun and highly educational. Funny article! I whole heartedly agree with you. Right now the 6 year old wants to "live' in the big box that her older sister's chair came in. She has been very creative planning on how to decorate and how much to put where in the box. I see her learning alot about sizes. My concern for kids now days is that everything they should be dreaming up and imagining is availbe in shrink wrap for a price. They no longer get to or have to use their imagination. They don't have to plan on how to get the tools they need to build the best club house or how to make a doll dress out of scraps of material. It has all been done for them.
