Minnesota’s St. Mary’s Univ Offers Accelerated Online MBA

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota has announced that it is launching an accelerated online MBA in 2016 in an expansion of its online course offerings. The personalized digital course takes one year and a half to complete and offers students three learning paths: social media, data analytics and sustainability management.

St Mary’s fast-track online MBA differs from other universities’ courses in that it lets students choose what they want to specialize in. Combining interest and marketplace demand, the university’s ‘anything but typical’ MBA, as the school says, lets individuals pursue an MBA course with a focus on social media management and marketing, data analytics or sustainability and environmental management. Students can also opt for a non-specific MBA curriculum, the university stated in its official press release.

The combination of affordability, acceleration and course personalization is a unique feature of St Mary’s MBA. MBA Program Director Holly Tapper said:

“We are excited to launch this online accelerated MBA program that gives students the opportunity to study what interests them while propelling their business careers. There really isn’t another program out there quite like it.”

As the University states on the program’s official page, the course teaches leadership and management to students and offers them tools and knowledge that’s highly desirable in today’s marketplace.

Regardless of the specialization students choose, everyone has to take seven mandatory courses including Quantitative Decision Making, Managerial Economics, International Operations Management, Managerial Accounting and Corporate Finance.

Among other skills, the online MBA graduates of St Mary’s will be able to apply quantitative analysis and economic theory, to implement their decision-making skills and evidence-based solutions and to communicate with ease and efficiency in a variety of channels. Through these skills, graduates will be ready to lead and positively influence the organizational structure of companies and ultimately lead said businesses to success and growth.

Students opting for the general online MBA can choose among 25 business topics as part of their participation in a special-topics course, Joshua Bokan of Campus Technology writes. Enrolled students can choose subjects from IT, Finance, Accounting, Healthcare, International Development and Project Management.

All accelerated MBA students will receive an iPad pre-loaded with St Mary’s online learning platform. The mobile platform offers them access to all courses and study materials and provides interactive exercise and activities based on real-world scenarios. In these, students are called on to apply their knowledge and skills.

The accelerated MBA offers students the chance to network and work hands-on with domestic and global companies as part of the college’s experiential Capstone project. MBA graduate Josepha Kodjo is quoted as saying about the value of the Capstone project:

“This Capstone project stirred my curiosity in how I can be a contributor toward international business development. This was a very rewarding experience; I am confident that the knowledge I have acquired from the Saint Mary’s MBA program can guide me anywhere around the world.”
