I was surprised & disapointed to see this issue while watching the "Arthur" show on pbs kids today with my daughter who is ill......

Mr. Rathburn took away Muffy Crosswire's recess for a week.

I don't dispute that she needed consequences for her behavior. Why recess? Recess and Play are how children learn!

Just thought you might find this interesting.
Thanks,
Di

On one hand we demand our students score high on standardized tests and hold teachers wholely accountable, then on the other demand recess and play time. Teachers say we aren't making widgets on an assembly line, the process NCLB, Race to the top and all of these reformers are pushing. Then we hear "But education bureaucracies seem to have forgotten that those are humans on their assembly lines". Really??? Is it just that we hate education and educators in general and we want everything without giving up anything or ????
