Education, as it stands today, is an exercise in both stupidity and futility. At the end of twelve years of what can only be termed a "robbing of childhood", "learners" (as they are termed today) have, in fact, learned very little that will be of future value and nothing that is of immediate value to them. All it does is give them a piece of paper that guarantees them absolutely NOTHING.
A matriculation certificate is worthless, one of an endless stream of papers that will enter the person's life, because it cannot provide the graduate with anything but a place in an employment queue.
There are many high-school leavers who are unable to secure what is disarmingly called "a decent job" ... and this applies also to many who have secured diplomas and other documents from institutes of tertiary education.
The focus of education is glaringly faulty because it does not teach the learners how to LIVE Nothing that the kids learn will result in a plate of food or somewhere to rest weary heads or a supply of potable water.
Education is sadly lacking in promoting the talents and skills required to become self-sufficient, that is, having the ability to supply the four essentials to life: clean air, shelter from the elements, clean water and nourishing food. Once these criteria are met, then ... and ONLY then ... can the focus be shifted to impart the other (presently irrelevant) subjects to those who wish to learn them.
The continuing scourge of poverty will not be eliminated, or even reduced, by present "education", but it CAN be obliterated, never to raise its ugly head again, when the pedants, pedagogues and professors realise that the knowledge that they are imparting to their students is useless to them when they are sitting there with growling bellies and no discernibly secure future ahead of them.
