Reading literature for pleasure is in a long-term decline and has been for perhaps a century, at least among the best educated upper quintile. Rarely reported is that surveys conducted as part of the latest PISA studies found the problem to be worldwide, affecting even such an admired educational system as Finland's. This is an area where homeschoolers likely have an advantage, and we all have to be homeschoolers in the summer (especially if our kids are not academically behind).
