FSCC to expand its community education programs

The list of courses available through Fort Scott Community College's Community Education program just got bigger. The Maximized Individual Learning Laboratory (M.I.L.L) will start a new program this fall that is the result of a partnership between FSCC and Ed2Go, an online adult and continuing education provider, to offer a wider variety of courses in the FSCC Community Education program.

Local residents who wish to continue their learning will soon have the opportunity to enroll in more than 300 different online classes.

“We’re partnering with them to provide a larger variety of community education courses to Fort Scott and surrounding areas,” M.I.L.L. Director DeAnn Welch said. “We’re expanding our offerings.”

In the agreement between Ed2Go and FSCC, Ed2Go will provide the courses and FSCC will make them available to the community.

“I have been researching different ways that we could expand our Community Education program and Ed2Go is the perfect fit for FSCC,” Welch said. “We are truly excited to bring this opportunity to the community.”

One of the biggest benefits of the partnership is the access that FSCC now has to Ed2Go’s resources. Each online course is also facilitated by an instructor provided by Ed2Go so all courses can be taken entirely from home, Welch said.

“My resources are limited,” she said. “It’s hard to find teachers of the class for little money … this (program) is a portal to go through to get these classes.”

Classes will be offered in various categories, including Career and Professional, Computer and Technology, Writing and Publishing, and Personal Development. Specific courses that will be offered include Principles of Sales Skills, Advanced Grant Proposal Writing, Leadership, and Discover Digital Photography.
