Hard to know exactly from this side of the pond. If the teachers are really that upset, something is really wrong. I was a union president for a few years. Teachers like security, if they are quitting, it must be desperate. I teach in both a charter school and a public school, but I have the same pension and protections in each. They are different models and each works well for different kinds of kids. Teachers don't get much compensation, so if you cut the pensions, the best ones will go elsewhere, leaving only the bad ones in the classroom. A very bad idea.

Alas, Joe and his employers are not doing a thing for education-only trying to pull down teachers-you know the ones actually doing the work.

Right...I'm surprised you didn't throw in some black helicopters in there somewhere. Sometimes people are just working in good faith to improve a failing education system.

"These are independent schools, on a similar model to US charter schools, that are run free of local authority interference and regulations." So are the schools asking for this interference? If not why do public schools both in the UK and the US have this interference which is obviously a factor in their supposed failure?
