The comparison of housing and college as investments is perhaps not the best way to look at either one. The housing bust does not make buying a house a bad idea. We all do need to live somewhere. Consideration of where and how one wants to live should be the most important factors after affordability when one buys a home. Similarly for post high school education, after figuring what is personally affordable, one should consider what one wants to spend one's working life doing. Cycles occur in the employment market just as they do elsewhere.

Is this an article on the benefits of a college education or an advertisement for Misericordia University (Home of the Guaranteed Placement Program)?
