As it is 50% of developmental math students fail to successfully get through their courses. This strategy may actually help them by challenging them to do their best - and getting credit for it. Too often students fail due to issues less related to skill and more to outside factors such as family issues. More motivation is the key, not dumbed down high school classes in college.
