The time is long overdue for tests to be administered to determine how effective teachers (and the college professors who educate them) actually are. These examinations should begin with how well children learn to read, and understand mathematics. If teachers do not score high enough on such tests, it should be assumed that education professors have failed to accomplish one of their basic responsibilies. Professors who do not addequately meet this responsibility should be denied tenure, i.e., a lifetime job.
