STEM teachers are temporary staff whose time in teaching is limited to when they get a job in their chosen profession. Most are not in the program because of a passion for children or teaching.....they are not in the program with the idea of staying at a particular school.....they are often there for temporary employment and tuition forgiveness.

This is not what schools and students need. They need someone with the passion and experience of working with children first and foremost....they need someone with the innate skills that people passionate in teaching have in assessing different skills and addressing a variety of learning needs.....they need people who want to stay at the school to develop long-term relationships with families and students. Does knowledge levels in the STEM areas need to increase for most current teachers.....yes. So we work to increase the current knowledge level.

Having STEM people as secondary help in a classroom would be ideal. Having an on-site STEM specialist in the school is great. Having STEM staff filling multiple positions in a school weakens the school's administrative structure.
