1) Jessie, I understand that you have just won an exemplary award. Could you tell us the exact title of the award?

Well, actually as I understand it, I am just a nominee at the current time, but it is an award for those athletes who involve themselves in their community. These are individuals who are putting their community before themselves. It is the Allstate AFCA Award.

2) How did you feel when you heard about this recognition?

I was speechless and instantly felt a joy and happiness that I would even be considered for this award.

3) Now, Who runs this
competition?

Allstate AFCA…..AFCA stands for American Football Coaches Association. Allstate is the “proud sponsor of the Good Works Team”. They attempt to recognize athletes who are involved in volunteering and community events and attempt to “ give back “ to their local community.

4) Now, tell us about yourself and what you are currently doing?

I am great! I am currently trying to improve my strength and speed so as to further my career in football and athletics.

5) How many community activities are you involved with?

I have been involved with some of the events in my community in terms of reading to children, and mentoring. I am also involved in some local events, and college clubs.

6) Now, let’s turn to sports- how did you first get involved in football?

Football was a must in my house among me and my brother. My brother is maybe the sole reason I got involved in football; he played peewee and throughout high school and I thought it was so cool. The University of Texas was, and is my favorite team. Growing up watching Walter Payton, Barry Sanders and all the greats in the NFL from that day on it was my dream to play football. Unfortunately my dad would not let me play until I got to 7th grade but it all worked out in the end.

7) Why do you think it important to give back to your community and to the youth of your community?

Because the people in the community are the future and being a college athlete is a great blessing that only a handful of people can say that they have accomplished in their life time. Giving back also shows that you appreciate what the community has given you; the fans, history of the town, home owned restaurants etc. Another reason is it shows that the youth and my generation are not lost to this world of crime, hate, and disrespect.

8) What are some of your future plans and endeavors?

My future plans are to graduate first then I pray to be in the NFL shortly after and by the time I am done with my football career I will go teach kindergarten perhaps in my home town of Dallas, Texas.

9) What have I neglected to ask?

Nothing, sir, I just thank you for asking me to do this interview, I appreciate it very much.
