U of R event to emphasize educational justice
REDLANDS - Educational equality will be at the forefront of educators' minds Tuesday as they gather at the University of Redlands for its annual summer conference to promote equality in the classroom.
The focus of the fifth Summer Institute on Leadership for Educational Justice will be closing the achievement gap for minority students, those who come from poverty, and resistant learners, among others.
"Our goal in this institute is to look at the systemic things that are already being done to close the achievement gap, and find how we can help those efforts," said UR School of Education dean Bob Denham.
The conference begins with a talk from keynote speaker Jean Anyon, author of books on education reform and professor at the Program in Urban Education at the Graduate Center in the City University of New York.
Registration will be accepted up until the event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. It costs $80 per person, or $65 per person in groups of five or more. For more information, or to register, call Martin Bright at (909) 748-8815.
