Private schools may be re-categorized

KUWAIT: The Ministry of Education will reconsider the decision pertinent to grading private schools into two categories A and B. These are set according to the position enjoyed by each school in every country at each educational stage.
Officials said that the General Department for Private Education will be discussing methods to amend some of the terms mentioned in the decision without violating regulations.

They said that this approach was taken after the Ministry discovered that at least 20 Arab and English private schools had failed to meet these terms. Furthermore, officials also stated that the department has compiled complaints received from directors of some schools.

With regard to the suggestion to appoint assistant directors to private schools, officials said that the deputy assistant for the private education has already informed the Deputies' Council on this matter, which was received a positive response from Minister Dr. Moudhi Al-Humoud. It needs to be discussed with the Union of Private Schools, which had previously rejected the idea during the previous Minister's tenure, reported Al-Watan.

Officials also said that no private schools will be unrecognized during the upcoming educational year. He added that procedures taken regarding this issue go through a series of procedures via the Ministry's planning directorate. These were informed by the educational directorates with regard to their needs in public schools.
