MADINAH, June 23rd, 2008
The Knowledge Economic City Al-Madinah (KEC) today (June 23rd, 2008) signed an agreement with Taibah University to establish centers of advanced learning in the holy city.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed here today between the Knowledge Economic City Developers Company, the master developer of KEC, and Taibah University. Eng.Tahir Bawazir,CEO of KEC, signed the MoU on his company's behalf whereas Professor Mansour M. Al-Nozha, president of Taibah University, signed for Taibah University. The signing ceremony was finalized in the presence of dignitaries attending the Noor Forum, thefirst ever Islamic Forum for Science and Knowledge taking place in Madinah, which was inaugurated by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, today
Taibah is a premier Saudi university that runs 22 colleges and institutes in the fields of Medicine; Education and Humanities; Science; Computer and Engineering Science; Financial and Administrative Sciences; Community; Engineering; Applied Medical Sciences; Dentistry; Pharmacy; Family Science; Arts & Science; and Applied Sciences.
As per the MoU, the proposed Areas of collaboration between the two parties will be:
i) To identify areas of opportunities for the establishment of Alserah Alnabawiah Research and Education Center;
ii) To identify research partners, grants, industry partners and renowned expertise as part of the development of the Nanotechnology Research and Development Center (NRDC);
iii) To collaborate in the areas of research, education and training for Information Communication Technology, Applied Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Engineering Technology (list not exhaustive);
iv) To establish, promote and manage an entrepreneurship (business Incubators) program for small and medium enterprises that are related to the areas of knowledge based industries; and
v) To promote and participate in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programs that are related to areas of knowledge based industries
After signing the MoU, Eng.Tahir Bawazir congratulated his colleagues at KEC by saying, "This agreement is another milestone in the development of KEC, the SR30 billion mega project that is being developed as part of an ambitious program undertaken by the Government of Saudi Arabia. We hope that our association with Taiba University will enhance our prestige in the knowledge-based industry."
Professor Mansour Al-Nozha Of Taiba University, said, "Taibah aims to impart quality education of the highest standards through innovative delivery of instruction by highly qualified and experienced faculty members. KEC is a prestigious project and our association with this is a matter of pride for all of us at the university."
About Knowledge Economic City Al Madinah (KEC)
The project is located in Al-Madinah, the home of the Prophet (pbuh) where the Holy Qur'an was compiled. The project has special significance for Muslims throughout the world because of its location. KEC Al-Madinah is located approximately 5 km to the east of Al Haram and 7 km from the airport.
KEC Madinah is one of six economic cities being developed in Saudi Arabia to boost regional development and provide employment for the country's growing population by focusing on Intellectual Property, Knowledge-Based Industries, Medical, Hospitality, Tourism and Multi-Media.
Knowledge Economic City is designed as a project that will position Saudi Arabia and young Saudi Arabian entrepreneurs as internationally respected leaders in knowledge based industries and aims to attract and develop talent from around the world. It will provide them with opportunities on a global scale while providing investors and entrepreneurs with infrastructure, opportunity, a unique pool of talent and the potential for a healthy return on investment.
More than 20,000 jobs and accommodation for about 150,000 people will be created by the project, which will have an aggregated investment of more than SR30 billion and take up to 12 years to complete. KEC will include the Taiba Technological and Economic Information Centre, an interactive museum on the Prophet's (pbuh) life as well as a centre for medical studies, biosciences and integrated medical services.Subscribe
