Greenacres Elementary is a school where many students arrive barely speaking English, never mind writing it. A year ago, half of the school's fourth graders couldn't pass the state writing test, the easiest of all FCAT exams. The high-poverty school made writing a priority this year by offering tutoring before and after school, as well as on Saturdays.
