INTRODUCTION TO GRADE 5 - GRAMMAR

In Grade 5 students will punctuate introductory prepositional phrases and indicate possessive nouns correctly. They will identify the differences between common and proper nouns. They will form the principal parts of both regular and irregular verbs and identify and form the perfect tenses of verbs. They will also distinguish between adverbs and prepositions.

REVIEW, RETEACH, AND REASSESS PAST CONCEPTS.

 

NEW CONCEPTS Teach how to punctuate introductory prepositional phrases ( longer than four words).

NEW CONCEPTS Put commas after introductory prepositional phrases composed of more than four words.

 

 

Teach the three basic rules for showing possessives of nouns (i.e., Singular Possessive--add apostrophe and s to the singular noun form; Plural Possessive whose plural noun form ends in s -- add just apostrophe; Plural Possessive whose plural noun form does not end in s -- add apostrophe and s. )

Write correct possessives of nouns.

 

 

Teach how to form regular and irregular plurals of nouns.

Formulate regular and irregular plurals of nouns.

 

 

Explain the differences between common and proper nouns.

Distinguish common nouns from proper nouns.

 

 

Teach the principal parts of regular and irregular verbs (e.g., Present, Past, Past Participle, and Present Participle).

Identify the four principal parts of regular and irregular verbs.

 

 

Explain the differences between prepositions and adverbs.

Distinguish prepositions from adverbs and identify both in sentences.

 

 

Teach the formation of the Present, Past, Future, Present Perfect, Past Perfect, and Future Perfect verb tenses.

Identify in sentences the Present, Past, Future, Present Perfect, Past Perfect, and Future Perfect verb tenses.
