INTRODUCTION TO GRADE 4 - GRAMMAR

In Grade 4 students will identify, use, and differentiate between adjectives and adverbs. They will recognize and avoid double negatives. They will identify linking verbs and differentiate between predicate nouns, predicate pronouns, and predicate adjectives.

Explain what adjectives and adverbs are and discuss their locations in sentences.

Locate and differentiate between adjectives and adverbs.

 

 

Teach students to avoid double negatives.

Avoid the use of double negatives in sentences.

 

 

Present examples of linking verbs (forms which come from the infinitive "to be" and from the five senses (i.e., "to look," "to sound," "to feel," "to taste," and "to smell").

Find linking verbs and any predicate adjectives which may follow.

 

 

Teach students to differentiate among predicate nouns, predicate pronouns, and predicate adjectives.

Locate predicate nouns, predicate pronouns, and predicate adjectives.
